The once widely available and easy to find self balancing scooters or mini segways are now as scarce as hen’s teeth, and this has to do with the fact that many of the ones that were being sold up until now across many marketplaces and websites, all over the internet, have turned out to be unsafe due to poor quality in the electrical components, presumably the battery and charging system which have been deemed to be the cause of several fires. This has led one of the most popular and undoubtedly preferred destinations for both sellers and buyers of hoverboards, Amazon, to remove nearly 100% of the listings containing offers of these devices.
Sellers have received notices from Amazon requiring them to provide evidence that the units they sell meet certain safety standards in order to be able to continue selling hoverboards, also called self balancing scooters or minis segways, having their listings suspended until they do so.
But the move has not only affected sellers, as reported by several news media outlets such as BBC and CNN, it has also extended to buyers who have also received notices containing recommendations to dispose of unsafe hoverboards (this buyers are said to be getting a refund) and also notices with some precautions at the time of charging and using their units (presumably those which are not deemed to be unsafe).
The result is that when you go out to buy a hoverboard or self balancing scooter, you will have a really hard time finding one.
As of now we have listed around 80 different Amazon sellers and brands of which are all now down at the marketplace due to safety concerns, which is why most of our listings show the “out of stock” sign, leaving only these few available for purchase:
As of now, the only way to get a reliable self balancing scooter or mini segway with all the safety features such as Samsung battery, UL certification and other important standards, is to turn to directly to the company website of the brands that are selling them in the US.
